About Us

In 1937, the Junior Assistance Club was formed in Corpus Christi under the leadership of Mrs. Frank Lewis. Mrs. Lewis along with twelve other women began researching and establishing the Central Index Bureau, which was a clearinghouse for relief and social agencies of the city. This index later became the United Way.

In 1944, the Junior Assistance Club joined the Association of Junior Leagues, International, becoming the Junior League of Corpus Christi, Inc.

As of 2021, there are currently 18 New Members, 64 Active Members, and 120 Sustaining Members.

Members of the Junior League of Corpus Christi, Inc. also participate in other community organizations such as March of Dimes, City Government, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the Greater Corpus Christi Hospitality Association, Junior Cotillion, Parent Teacher Associations, and Booster Clubs.

Mission Statement

The Junior League of Corpus Christi, Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

What We Do

Members receive a variety of trainings to help expand their knowledge of our city and enhance their leadership skills. Junior League members also utilize their leadership skills in other non-profits, city government and the private sector.

The Junior League of Corpus Christi, Inc. has a three-year community action plan targeting early childhood development. Our programs will emphasize literacy, nutrition, cognitive skills and physical activity.

How We Do It

The Junior League of Corpus Christi, Inc. currently hosts multiple fundraising events. We also rely on partnerships with local businesses to successfully impact the children of Corpus Christi.

Past Significant Projects

• Rummage Sale
• Little Free Libraries
• Run Amuck
• Fairy Tale Ball – A well-known fundraiser where guests elaborately decorated their dinner tables to fairy tale themes. Over its 10 year duration, this event raised approximately $400,000.
• Kids in the Kitchen – Provided lessons and demonstrations in the preparation of healthy meals and snacks in partnership with local organizations, chefs, and nutritionists.
• Sidbury and Bulcher House – historical restoration projects
• BayFest – Junior League of Corpus Christi was a co-establisher and continued partner during the entire duration of the festival.
• VIVA Cookbooks – League members compiled their favorite recipes to share with the Coastal Bend.
• Shade Chaparral – An environmental project providing trees in the Corpus Christi downtown area.
• C.A.S.A. – Court Appointed Special Advocates
• Graffiti Wipe-Out – Outreach project to eradicate graffiti in Corpus Christi.
• KidsPlace and Skate Park – Located at Cole park, these attractions provide hundreds of hours of physical activity for the youth of Corpus Christi.
• Antonio E. Garcia Arts Center Playground & Amphitheatre
• CCISD Teaching Gardens – JLCC installed a teaching garden for students at all 50 schools.
